school system, we encourage children to embrace Agriculture as an alternative lifestyle.

Our agricultural programme focusses primarily on teaching Agro-allied ventures to children (and informally to their parents) at our Community Education Center. Each school will house an Agriculture Station with individual local farmers drawn from the refugees themselves who will collaborate with extension experts. To enhance this program, both children and adults will receive training within the Community Education Centers with special emphasis on agricultural processes and management practices, as well as the use of modern farming aids.

This collaboration also enables farmers to boost agriculture as their mainstay to help afford the means to educate their children as well as training of youth in land use and nutritional stability. CORA Farms NIG located at Idum-Mbube-Ogoja and Victoria in Ikom is currently beginning operations and provides food supplies to our schools and communities as well as provide revenue for programme upkeep. It is presently subdivided into Animal production Division with the Poultry, the Fishery, the Grass cutters, the Snailry, the Goatery and Piggery units as well as Vegetables and Crop-Production

Recent Impact in Agriculture

With aid from the John Stiley Family, CORAfrica has over the years founded agriculture Demonstration stations under the CORA FARMS ventures with special focus on Animal Husbandry specializing on Poultry, (Noellas, Broilers and layers), Piggery, Snailery, Goatery and Crop cultivation (Cassava, Yams, Groundnut, Banana, Pepper, Cucumber, water melon).

  • Our Demonstration Farms at both school in Victoria-Ikom and Idum-Mbube enable students to receive hands-on training and introduction to sustainable forms of Agriculture.
  • We also have a community education program at each Demonstration Farm where community members can participate in workshops and training that will help them improve and grow their own practice.
  • All our agriculture activities are based on the Songhai Model of Integrated farming as developed by Songhai Farms.
  • CORAfrica provides extended camps during the long holiday for children and youth, and older students can specialize in topics of particular interest to them. The focus of these camps is on the economic viability of sustainable agriculture and providing students with practical skills to be farmers themselves.
  • Expansion of CORA FARMs (Mbube) in the area of Poultry and Fishery, Cultivation of Crops/Vegetables.

CORA FARMS NIG

The farm was established in February 2016 through funds donated by the John & Denis Stilley Family as an income yielding extension project of CORAfrica. It is located at Idum-Mbube- Ogoja and Victoria in Ikom and has been providing food supplies to families, schools and communities, with lots of employment opportunities for farmers as well as generating revenue for other projects.

CORA FARMS focuses primarily on encouraging children (and their parents) to embrace agricultural programs that afford them food security and economic empowerment for their families. Our schools house Agriculture Stations with individual local farmers drawn from community members who collaborate with extension experts. To enhance this program, both children and adults receive training in modern farming aids.

Over the years our Agricultural Program, showcased best practices, using poultry and crop farming as core elements of the school curriculum to boost knowledge in Agricultural Science and farming education among school children and Youths in rural communities. This collaboration has assisted farmers to boost agriculture as their mainstay to help afford the means to educate their children as well as train youth on land use and nutritional stability. It is presently subdivided into 2 main sections; Animal Husbandry and Crop Production.

POULTRY

The Nigerian poultry sector has expanded rapidly in recent years. Local production onlyPOULTRY: meets 30% to 40% of the demand for chicken eggs and meat, thus there is huge scope for the industry to expand. At Cora Farms, we produce both chicken Layers for egg production and Broilers for meat production using Intensive system of production, with the best cultural practices. Presently, we have, Turkeys, layers, and broilers. As we move into 2022, we will add more, so we can meet up with the high demand for poultry Product at Ogoja. We have the capacity to keep up to 10,000 Bird’s with one of the best locations for Poultry Production because it is free from any industrial hazards.

FISHERY

At The moment, We Are working on our Fishery, Grass Cutter, Snail and Goat Section So we can have better Production come 2022 this is because the bank did not kick up to finance our last year’s budget.

PIGGERY

Pig farming or hog farming is the raising and breeding of domestic pigs as livestock, and is a branch of animal husbandry. Pigs are farmed principally for food and skins. Pigs are amenable to many different styles of farming: intensive commercial units, commercial free-range enterprises, or extensive farming. At Cora Farm, we produce our pigs using the Intensive System of Production. We provide the pig with everything it needs to grow in the pen. We have capacity for 100 pigs and above with good feeding and water supply. Going forward the demand for pig is very high at Ogoja. Come 2022 we are moving into hybrid pigs.

CROPS CULTIVATION

It is important to note that the positive impact of our agricultural programs has over the years spread mostly within the Ogoja, Obudu, Boki, Yala, and Bekwerra Local Government Areas in the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State where majority of families are currently living above the poverty level. Agriculture is truly the hen that laid the golden egg. As we already know, our country (Nigeria) can’t grow well if we can’t cultivate and manufacture our own food. Going forward, a good Agricultural policy and implementation Still is the sure way that can transport our country/ Economy to the path of recovery and boom (growth) At Cora Farms, we are committed to the protection of life and properties of our workers and this is given priority in the implementation of company policy on Performance evaluation.

THE CORAFEED MILL

CORA-FARMS will establish a multi-feed Mills, capable of producing 1,000 tons of diverse feed daily. Feeds produced will enable the poultry, piggery, snailry, fishery, goatery departments to have steady and constant feed to boost the growth of the animals and prevent the constant buying of feed which consumes approximately 80% of our farm incomes. Feed will also be sold out.

We also plan the CORA-FOODS FACTORY as a multi-purpose food processing industry capable of producing 1,000 cartons of finished products per day as well as packaging assorted food crops like Rice, Spaghetti, Semovita, Biscuits, Milk, Fruit juice etc as finished products for sale in future. Consequently, CORA- FARMS will upgrade the production rate of the following crops: Rice, Yam, Corn, Soya-beans, Plantain, Cassava, Potatoes, Millet, Groundnuts, Pepper, alongside fruit- crops like Water-melon, Orange, Mango, Pineapple etc. Our target is to package these items in bags for resale, and also convert the raw crops into finish products.
