HELP-A-KID

A child’s poverty should not decide whether that child is educated. HELP-A-KID pays the fees and the costs around them for acutely underprivileged children, so that they can finish the education they have already started.

What it does

Support for children outside our own schools.

HELP-A-KID reaches children and students at schools and colleges across the region — not the ones registered under CORAfrica. We identify children in need, and provide tuition fees and the other charges that quietly decide whether a child stays in class.

Tuition, school uniforms and educational materials — the costs that push a family past what it can afford.

Why it matters

The difference between leaving and staying.

The programme has made a significant difference to children who were about to withdraw from school because their families could not afford the fees. Some beneficiaries have been supported all the way from primary through secondary school.

Many have gone on to build successful lives and to contribute to the development of their communities. That is the second half of the design: HELP-A-KID is meant to encourage the children it supports to give back in their turn.
