Fr. Peter Abue

Born in Idum-Mbube, in the Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, Fr. Peter Abue was ordained a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Ogoja in 1985. He went on to further study, taking a Master’s degree in Corporate Communication at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, in 1994, and a PhD in International Development at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 2006.

As a corollary to that research he conceived Children of Rural Africa, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in the United States in 2006 and registered as an NGO with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria in 2010. In June 2017 the Cross River State Government honoured him with a special award during its jubilee celebrations, Cross River@50.

Since returning from his studies he has initiated empowerment programmes and facilitated projects across the diocese, among them St. Joseph Primary and Secondary School and the Sr. Augustina Abuo Memorial Medical Clinic at Idum-Mbube, Little Flower School at Ipong-Obudu, the Ogoja Diocesan Agriculture and Investment Program, the Thomas McGettrick Institute of Technology, the John Stilley Nursery and Primary Schools at Victoria-Ikom, and the St. Thomas Aquinas and Holy Family economic empowerment programmes. Those institutions are being handed on to the partners who will run them.

He is Parish Priest of Holy Family Parish, Ikom, and Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja.
